Expanding Operations in Detroit.

Detroit, Michigan – Material Handling Equipment Manufacturer, Dearborn Mid-West Conveyor Co. (DMWCC), is expanding its manufacturing operation to its City of Detroit complex. By 2012, DMWCC plans to invest $2.0 million in facility upgrades as well as capital equipment to its former manufacturing facility located on Auburn Street. In addition, DMWCC plans on adding twenty to thirty skilled trades workers, primarily welders and fabricators over the next several months.

The facility will fabricate material handling systems for DMWCC’s Kansas City-based bulk handling division, which specializes in furnishing the design, supply, erection and commissioning of bulk materials handling.

“We are pleased and proud that we can contribute to local economic growth by re-opening the Detroit fabrication shop,” said Tony Rosati, President and CEO of DMWCC. “We believe the decision to expand our business in this direction will be beneficial to the community, the employees and their families, and to our Kansas City operation. This new manufacturing resource will also enable us to provide an additional high quality product and service to our customers.”

Cleco’s Madison Unit 3 is winner of POWER’s 2010 Marmaduke Award for excellence in operation and maintenance. Cleco Power now claims bragging rights for owning the largest 100% petroleum coke-fired circulating fluidized bed power plant in North America. Petcoke deliveries are barged along Louisiana’s Mississippi and Red Rivers from refineries from South Louisiana. The Pipe Conveyor transports 1.5 million tons of pet coke and 600,000 tons of limestone delivered by barge each year.

Press Release: “The pipe conveyor, supplied by Dearborn Mid-West Conveyor Co. (DMW) and FLSmidth Koch, avoids the need for expensive transfer tower structures and fuel chutework required for conventional conveyor. The pipe conveyor design is, according to DMW, ‘a belt conveyor wrapped into a tube shape (to) allow the pipe conveyor to negotiate vertical and horizontal curves without the need for transfer towers.’ For Madison Unit 3, the 1,500-tph conveyor belt is 500mm in diameter and can run at grade for long distances and then elevate, as required (Figure 5).”
